Care Packages
Many parents adopting from China send a care package to their waiting son or daughter. We have sent care packages to both our little boys from China while we were waiting to bring them home, and it is such fun! Not only is it satisfying to select items for your child, but often it is a great way to obtain updated photos and information! There are many wonderful services that will send the care packages for you at a reasonable price. NOTE: There is a clause in the Hague Convention that prohibits adoptive families from having any direct contact with the child prior to the adoption. There are differing opinions on how this affects care packages. While most agencies feel it is acceptable to mail a care package to a waiting child, a few agencies feel that it violates Hague guidelines. Those in favor of care packages argue that sending a care package to the orphanage is not direct contact with the child. Others who are against it say that families should refrain from many contact of any kind. They say that it may cause problems with the orphanage, or jealousy among other children living there. Please use your own discretion and follow the direction of your agency when deciding to send a care package.

Red Thread China
We have also used Ann twice and she is just as fantastic! Ann lives in China and is very good with adoptive families. From The Website: Ann says that "our company has had a working relationship with more than 400 orphanages over the past 4 years. We have maintained our relationship with these orphanages having current addresses and phone numbers for them. In doing so we know which orphanages are happy to share updates (pictures & child information), which orphanages will be willing to take cake's or gifts for their children, which orphanages are not!

Which One?
Each one of these services are equally wonderful. I haven't heard bad reports about any of them. It's simply a matter of which one fits your budget and your needs best. Some of these services offer care package items that another service doesn't - prices also differ, as well. Just shop around the websites and see which one fits your needs the best! You might also be interested in: Home Page Yahoo Adoption Groups Share your adoption story with those still waiting!
