Care Packages

alt text

Many parents adopting from China send a care package to their waiting son or daughter. We have sent care packages to both our little boys from China while we were waiting to bring them home, and it is such fun! Not only is it satisfying to select items for your child, but often it is a great way to obtain updated photos and information! There are many wonderful services that will send the care packages for you at a reasonable price.

NOTE: There is a clause in the Hague Convention that prohibits adoptive families from having any direct contact with the child prior to the adoption. There are differing opinions on how this affects care packages. While most agencies feel it is acceptable to mail a care package to a waiting child, a few agencies feel that it violates Hague guidelines. Those in favor of care packages argue that sending a care package to the orphanage is not direct contact with the child. Others who are against it say that families should refrain from many contact of any kind. They say that it may cause problems with the orphanage, or jealousy among other children living there. Please use your own discretion and follow the direction of your agency when deciding to send a care package.

Care Package Services

Lady Bugs N' Love

We have used this service twice and have been very pleased! Kelly and Angela delivered our care package very quickly and got us six new photos of our little boy!

From Their Website: This site is for the adoptive parent who needs a fast, inexpensive way to keep in contact with their child, a foster family or an orphanage. We send care packages to both orphanages and foster families!

Red Thread China

We have also used Ann twice and she is just as fantastic! Ann lives in China and is very good with adoptive families. From The Website: Ann says that "our company has had a working relationship with more than 400 orphanages over the past 4 years. We have maintained our relationship with these orphanages having current addresses and phone numbers for them. In doing so we know which orphanages are happy to share updates (pictures & child information), which orphanages will be willing to take cake's or gifts for their children, which orphanages are not!

Gifts to China With Love

Gifts to China with Love offers a wide variety of care packages and services! Started in 2009 by an adoptive mommy! A huge amount of variety is offered through their website, as well as updates on your waiting child.

Blessed Kids

Founded in 2003, Blessed Kids was started by Adele and her husband! Adele was born in China and has also adopted a daughter from China. Blessed Kids offers care packages, translations, letters, orphanage phone calls, and updated. Blessed Kids also hosts one of the largest databases of orphanage names and addresses.

Sharp Books

Maureen is a book binder who has created a Baby Questions book in Chinese and English. Maureen makes and sell these beautiful books to parents who want to send their own care package to the orphanage. Adoptive parents can send the book to the orphanage for the orphanage director to fill out and give to you on Gotcha Day. There are 88 questions in the book. An English/Chinese letter is also enclosed which asks them to try to answer only the questions you have marked, as they are the most important to you. Learn more about this product at Maureen's website!

Which One?

Each one of these services are equally wonderful. I haven't heard bad reports about any of them. It's simply a matter of which one fits your budget and your needs best. Some of these services offer care package items that another service doesn't - prices also differ, as well. Just shop around the websites and see which one fits your needs the best!
