The majority of adoptive families still say on Shamian Island during their second week in China. Even if you don't choose to stay on the Island, I hope this Shamian Island, Guangzhou map is helpful during your trips to this special place.

Both the White Swan hotel and the Victory East/West hotels are located on Shamian Island. More recently, quite a few families have opted to stay off the Island at the Holiday Inn Shifu or Garden Hotels.

The American consulate used to be located on the Island, which is why it became the "hub" for adoptive families. However, the consulate was relocated to the main city of Guangzhou a few years ago. While the majority of adoptive families still stay on the island, there has been a definite shift in recent years as more and more families choose to stay elsewhere.
